Cars.com, the online resource for buying and selling new and used vehicles, announced the launch of its "Cars Cares" campaign during Super Bowl XLVI. During the game, when the Cars.com commercial airs, viewers who use the Shazam App to tag the ad will earn $1 for one of seven charities in contention for a maximum $100,000 donation from the site.
The maximum $100,000 donation will be given to the charity that receives the most votes on the Cars.com Facebook page between Jan. 26 and Feb. 13.

April 2, 2010, Philanthropy News Digest — The Los Angeles-based Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation has announced the finalists for this year's Broad Prize for Urban Education, an annual $2 million award that honors urban school districts making the greatest progress in raising student achievement.
The largest education prize in the country is awarded to school districts that demonstrate the best overall performance and improvement in student achievement while reducing achievement gaps among poor and minority students. The winning district, to be announced in October, will receive $1 million for college scholarships for high school seniors, while each of the other four finalists will receive $250,000 for scholarships.
Chosen from a hundred eligible school districts nationwide, the finalists are Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in North Carolina; Gwinnett County Public Schools, outside Atlanta; Montgomery County Public Schools in Rockville, Maryland; and the Socorro and Ysleta independent school districts in El Paso, Texas. Montgomery County and Ysleta are first-time finalists, while Gwinnett County and Socorro were finalists last year and Charlotte-Mecklenburg was a finalist in 2004.
