Center on Philanthropy Congratulates Indianapolis Philanthropic Leader L.H. Gayley on Lifetime Achievement Award

INDIANAPOLIS, November 17, 2009 — The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University today offered its congratulations to L.H. Bayley, chairman of the board of David A. Noyes & Company, who has been named recipient of the Association of Fundraising Professionals-Indiana Chapter’s (AFP-IC) 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award.
“The Center on Philanthropy was privileged to nominate L.H. Bayley for this prestigious honor,” said Patrick M. Rooney, executive director of the Center on Philanthropy. “We are delighted that AFP-IC has chosen to recognize L.H.’s outstanding commitment to improving the Indianapolis community and to serving others throughout his distinguished career. His dedication to strengthening and advancing philanthropy through both his professional and personal life offers a tremendous example for others who want to make a difference.”
A highly respected business and community leader, Bayley has touched and enriched countless lives through his financial and volunteer support to the community. His personal giving and volunteer leadership have helped to raise hundreds of millions of dollars to aid fellow Hoosiers. Organizations benefitting from his skill and support include the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, St. Vincent Hospital, the Indiana Children’s Wish Foundation, the American Pianists Association and many others. He currently serves on the boards of the Center on Philanthropy, the Heart Center of Indiana, the St. Vincent Hospital Foundation and Legatus of Indiana.
Bayley’s role as a passionate fundraiser and genuine philanthropist has inspired his clients and peers to give back to the community through financial and volunteer commitments of their own.
Additionally, he has frequently engaged in acts of quiet philanthropy, providing direct support to several families in need after catastrophic situations.
“L.H. Bayley’s inspiring life epitomizes the AFP awards theme, ‘Change the World with a Giving Heart.’ His impact and achievements are innumerable,” said Kim Gattle, director of development and communications for the Center on Philanthropy. “We are so fortunate that he chooses to apply his considerable talents on behalf of the Center on Philanthropy to make it possible for us to in turn help so many other nonprofit organizations achieve their vital missions.”
Nonprofit professionals and scholars in the Central Indiana community and worldwide benefit from the Center’s work, which is supported by Bayley’s board service, his financial and volunteer support of the Center’s endowment committee, and its efforts in demonstrating best practices in fundraising. His many contributions to strengthening the Center include serving as a board member since 2003, acting as business development committee chair, and serving as a member of the endowment campaign committee. In 2007, he was a member of the Center’s 20th anniversary sponsorship committee, leading the committee’s efforts with a large personal sponsorship, and challenging others to join his commitment. The 20th anniversary sponsorship committee raised more funds than any other single Center event.
