Feb. 18, 2010, San Jose Business Journal — The Wikimedia Foundation said Wednesday it received a $2 million grant from Google Inc.
The grant came through Mountain View-based Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Tides Foundation.
The grant to Wikimedia — a nonprofit that runs Wikipedia — will be used for technical infrastructure and greater online accessibility.
Google has not donated funds to Wikimedia in the past, but partnered with the nonprofit to translate some Wikipedia content into other languages.
