Weber Shandwick Chosen By National Marrow Donor Program(R) To Head Awareness Campaign

June 4, 2009
MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, Minn., June 4, 2009 — The Minneapolis-St. Paul office of Weber Shandwick has been chosen by the National Marrow Donor Program to head the organization's largest annual awareness campaign. The "Be The Match(SM) Marrowthon" campaign, which runs June 8-22, will work to reach a diverse audience of current and potential bone marrow donors and advocates. For thousands of people with leukemia and other life-threatening diseases, a marrow transplant offers a second chance at life.

This is the third year in a row that Weber Shandwick has worked with the organization on the campaign, previously called "Thanks Mom." In 2008, the efforts garnered PRWeek's Healthcare Campaign of the Year.

Weber Shandwick is providing media relations support, social media engagement, event support and informative media materials.

"It is an incredible privilege for Weber Shandwick to support Be The Match in its essential work in saving and improving lives," said Sara Gavin, president of Weber Shandwick's Minneapolis office.

The National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) operates the Be The Match Registry(SM) and partners with a global network of leading hospitals, blood centers, cord blood banks and laboratories. As a leader in the field of marrow and cord blood transplantation, the NMDP facilitates transplants worldwide, conducts research to improve survival and quality of life, and provides education to patients and health care professionals. Together with its fundraising partner, Be The Match Foundation(SM), the NMDP is dedicated to creating an opportunity for all patients to receive the transplant therapy they need. Since operations began in 1987, the NMDP has provided more than 35,000 transplants to help give patients a second chance at life. For more information, visit BeTheMatch.org or call 1 (800) MARROW-2.
